SafelyStay was picked best of show, along with two other startups, at the September 10, 2015 Fall Expo at Plug and Play Tech Center.
This is an Atlanta company led by CEO Andrew Bate, who said he was inspired by the horror stories that pop up from time to time about on-demand and sharing economy disasters involving companies like Airbnb or Uber. The goal is to eventually provide personal verification services and insurance for all of the sharing economy but for now the focus is on home sharing.
"We began with the home rental market because it is large — $100 billion annually," Bate said. The company said it has processed more than 1,000 rental nights since May and is working on a trial with Booking.com, which has more than 300,000 rental homes.
"HomeAway estimates that it takes an average of nine days to deal with the details that need to happen to rent a home," he said. "Our goal is to change for its to take the same amount of time it takes to book a hotel room."
